Hircus goats originate from Asia’s highlands between Mongolia, China, India, and Afghanistan.
Due to the extreme climate conditions of this region, Hircus goats have developed a soft and fluffy undercoat, called duvet. The duvet regulates the animal’s body temperature by means of an inner air chamber that serves as insulation, protecting it from extreme changes in temperature.
In spring, during the moulting season, these goats are combed manually to collect the duvet. Each goat produces roughly 200 g of duvet. Such a small amount of material so difficult to procure is what makes cashmere so valuable and exclusive.
Lunaria cashmere selects the finest lots of duvets, using only top yarns.
